TeacherDesk is operated by BrightWave Technology LLC ("we," "us," or "our"), a software company providing AI-powered tools for K-12 educators. Our platform is accessible at teacherdesk.net.

2. Information We Collect

Account & School Information:

School name, administrator name, and contact email
Teacher names and school email addresses
Subscription and billing information (processed by Stripe — we do not store card numbers)
School type and district affiliation

Usage Data:

Which AI tools are used and how frequently
API usage metrics for billing and service quality purposes
Login timestamps and IP addresses for security purposes
Error logs for debugging and platform improvement

Content You Input:

Text you enter into TeacherDesk tools is sent to AI models to generate responses
We do not store the content of your AI tool inputs beyond the duration of your session
We do not use your inputs to train AI models

3. Student Data & FERPA

    TeacherDesk does not collect, store, or process student personally identifiable information (PII). Our platform is designed for teacher use only. Teachers are instructed not to enter student names, ID numbers, or other PII into our tools. We are not a "school official" under FERPA as we do not maintain education records.

To provide, maintain, and improve the TeacherDesk platform
To process payments and manage subscriptions
To send transactional emails (payment receipts, account notifications)

5. How We Share Your Information

We do not sell your personal information. We share data only with trusted service providers necessary to operate TeacherDesk:

Stripe — payment processing (governed by Stripe's Privacy Policy)
Anthropic — AI model provider for tool generation (text inputs are processed but not stored)
SendGrid (Twilio) — transactional email delivery
DigitalOcean — cloud infrastructure hosting

We may also disclose information when required by law, court order, or to protect the rights and safety of TeacherDesk, its users, or the public.

6. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your data, including:

SSL/TLS encryption for all data in transit
Encrypted passwords using bcrypt hashing
JWT-based authentication with secure session management
Rate limiting and DDoS protection
Regular security monitoring and audit logging
Fail2ban intrusion prevention

No method of transmission over the internet is 100% secure. While we strive to protect your data, we cannot guarantee absolute security.

7. Data Retention

Account data is retained for the duration of your subscription plus 90 days after cancellation
Usage logs are retained for 12 months
Billing records are retained for 7 years as required by law

As a TeacherDesk subscriber, you have the right to:

Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you
Correction: Request correction of inaccurate data
Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated data
Portability: Request your data in a portable format
Opt-out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time

9. Cookies

TeacherDesk uses essential cookies only — specifically, secure JWT authentication tokens stored as HTTP-only cookies to maintain your login session. We do not use advertising cookies, tracking pixels, or third-party analytics cookies.

10. Children's Privacy

TeacherDesk is designed for use by teachers and school administrators, not students. We do not knowingly collect personal information from individuals under 18 years of age. If you believe a minor has provided us with personal information, contact us immediately at support@teacherdesk.net.

11. Changes to This Policy

We may update this Privacy Policy periodically. We will notify you of material changes via email or a notice on our website. Your continued use of TeacherDesk after the effective date of any changes constitutes acceptance of the updated policy.
